Four Months Post Op

Four months already?  Charlie's craniofacial surgery has been a resounding success.  He met recently with his pediatrician who assessed his skull circumference to be in the 11th percentile now.  This is an enormous leap from before surgery when Charlie was measuring below zero percent.  Dr. Fearon, Charlie's craniofacial surgeon, is very pleased with how Charlie's head is growing and believes that he will not need any more surgical interventions.  Charlie is now focusing on his physical therapies and an upcoming EEG.  Thanks to everyone who has kept Charlie in their thoughts and prayers this year.  It has made all the difference!

Charlie Loves to Swing

Charlie has recently made the leap from five point harnesses to park swings.  He is coordinated enough now to stay upright while swinging through the air!  He loves everything about it.  Swinging gives him a chance to use spinal integrity, core strength, improved head control and hands for stabilization.  He is also able to keep his left hand on the swing - a real feat for him!  Swinging - a fun and easy form of physical therapy for Charlie.

Continued Physical Therapy with ECI

Charlie has two one-hour sessions of physical therapy a week with Lori, a wonderful therapist with the Early Childhood Intervention program here in Texas.  Here are some photos so that you can see a little bit of what Charlie is currently doing.

Lori brought Charlie a chair to help him sit with better alignment.

Lori uses a mirror to help with neck and head alignment.
Charlie loves looking at himself in the mirror.

Charlie gives himself a kiss...

...but it doesn't taste very good.

Lori is working with Charlie on lots of things at once and her approach is very holistic.  Recently, she's helped him make great strides with holding small objects, self feeding, sitting up, posture and arm strength.  Thank you, Lori, for helping Charlie heal!
