The S.T.E.P.S. Program

Hello Charlie fans,

Last Friday Charlie began work in the S.T.E.P.S. program at the University of Texas at Dallas Callier Center for Communication Disorders. S.T.E.P.S. stands for Supportive Treatment of Easting in Preschoolers and is a 10 week small group intervention program designed to help children motor-based eating disorders.

What does this mean?  It means that Charlie has trouble with chewing, eating off of a spoon, drinking out of a cup and straw and is not transitioning to solid foods.  He just needs a little therapy time dedicated solely to the difficult task of eating.

His first day in class went very well.  He has three great therapists working with him. There are also break-out sessions where the parents undergo their own training to better help their child transition at home.  We'll keep you up to date as the semester progresses, but until then, here are a few photos from Friday's class.

All my love and gratitude,
Sarah
